Wall Street, Fed officials warm to idea of third-straight 0.75% interest rate hike

A series of Wall Street banks lifted expectations this week for the Federal Reserve's next move. Economists at Bank of America, Goldman Sachs, and Nomura now project policymakers will deliver a 75 basis-point rate increase at their policy-setting meeting Sept. 20-21, up from previous forecasts of a half percentage-point hike.

Swedes head to polls in close-run election marked by crime, energy crisis

Swedes voted on Sunday in an election pitting the incumbent centre-left Social Democrats against a right-wing bloc that has embraced the anti-immigration Sweden Democrats in a bid to win back power after eight years in opposition.

With steadily growing numbers of shootings unnerving voters, campaigning has seen parties battle to be the toughest on gang crime, while surging inflation and the energy crisis in the wake of the invasion of Ukraine have increasingly taken centre stage.

Payments giants to apply new code identifying sales at U.S. gun stores

Visa Inc, the world's largest payments processor, said on Saturday it will implement a new merchant category code for U.S. gun retailers, which will identify transactions at firearms stores.

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) approved creation of the merchant code on Friday following pressure from gun-control activists who say it will help track suspicious weapons purchases.
